Initial cleaning and a pre-filming treatment of cooling water systems is necessary to prolong the life of heat exchange equipment.
This is usually done in two phases:
Cleaning the system is essential to prepare the surface for pre-filming.
After the surface has been cleaned, it can then be pre-filmed, which then minimises any initial corrosion which occurs upon start-up. It also allows the most efficient application of a corrosion inhibitor program.
Costs, discharge limitations, and time span will decide whether pre-treatment should be applied to the entire system or to individual exchangers.
